LIVERSCREEN

These videos have been the first job as a freelance and has been a challenge in many ways. First of all, working for a client is very different than working for yourself or for an academic project. The first goal was to fully understand what they expected from me exactly. Secondly, we had to work with our differences in the field, as they are doctors experts in liver diseases and don't know how the audiovisual works, and viceversa with me. I have become quite an expert in liver diseases now, which is an outcome I never expected from this assignment. Thirdly, this job pushed me further into animation, which I barely knew before. I have always loved animation and spending hours editing with After Effects, but I was quite shy and insecure with animating figures and people, or with motion graphics, I only did animation of text. With this assignment animation was key to be able to show graphically what happens when the liver is ill.

LiverScreen is an European project that the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona is carrying along with other partners around Europe. The project includes research and scientific dissemination in order to make the liver diseases more known by the general public but also by the doctors, as they are a silent disease and if they are detected soon, they can be reversed.

One of the partners saw the first video and asked for more. Moreover, the Hospital Clinic, asked me for another video fully animated, so it's a great excuse to make me work more on my animation skills

I came up with this opportunity thanks to the confidence of a teacher from my degree. As the Hospital Clinic is part of the University of Barcelona, when the doctors wanted to look for someone to make these videos asked to another Faculty of the University, to my ex-Faculty. There, the coordinator that was in contact with them proposed the project to me, which I gladly took. I have worked with a colleague that has come with me to the shootings of the interviews and has helped me with the editing.
